A

  • Admin … the owner of a site
  • Ads … (short for advertisement) images linked to a product or site; owner usually earns revenue from clicks through the ad
  • Affiliate … a person who is associated with a company or brand; often when the affiliate places an affiliate link in their site, they will earn a small commission of the sale when a viewer clicks through the link and buys a product from the affiliated site
  • Author … someone who contributes to a site by submitting posts or sometimes guest posts

B

  • Blogger … a free blogging platform by Google 
  • Browser … a program/software used to surf the Internet

C

  • Character … a letter or symbol
  • Chrome … a browser by Google
  • Commercial Use … a license under which you may use the item for commercial purposes (in product images or some other ways that you may make money from)
  • Comment … a message posted by viewers 
  • CSS … (Cascading Style Sheets) a language used to communicate the look and format of a website

D

  • Domain … a unique Internet address for a website

E

  • eBook … an online/digital book that can be viewed on a mobile reader (Kindle, iPad, Nook etc.)
  • eCommerce … an online transaction of products/services

F

  • Favicon … the image that appears in the browser window
  • Firefox … a search engine
  • Font … a typeface or alphabet of styled characters used to communicate
  • Forum … a place where ideas can be expressed

G

  • Google … a search engine
  • Guest Post … a post done by an author invited to contribute to a site

H

  • Hex Code … a six-letter code used to represent a color
  • Hosting … the server that stores electronic data for your website
  • HTML … (HyperText Markup Language) a language used to communicate the font, color and functions of a website

  • Internet … a global computer network

  • Javascript … an object-oriented scripting language to provide special/interactive effects

  • License … a permit from an authority to use something in a specific way
  • Logo … a symbol or design used by a company or brand to identify it’s products or content

  • Newsletter … a publication regularly distributed to subscribers

P

  • Personal Use … a license under which you may only use the item for personal purposes (in ways that are not potentially earning you a profit)
  • Plugin … (typically found on WordPress) a piece of software meant to enhance another piece of software
  • Product … and item up for sale on a website or in a store
  • Profit … the money earned from a sale or transaction

  • RSS … (Rich Site Summary, or more often called; Really Simple Syndication) a feed that publishes updated blog information (posts, news, headlines etc.)

  • Sale … the profits earned from a product
  • Search Engine … a software designed to search the web for information
  • Seminar … a conference or meeting meant to discus training
  • Social Media … websites/applications used for social networking
  • Stock Images/Photos … licensed images/photos (commercial or personal use, usually)

  • Widget … a single item or function in a sidebar or footer on a website
  • WordPress … a blogging platform
